Equine Care

Helping all horses live happier, healthier lives.

At Nevada Veterinary Clinic, we are committed to providing comprehensive equine care through customized preventative wellness plans. Our goal is to support your horse’s long-term health and reduce the risk of emergencies.

Preventive Healthcare Services

Our preventative care includes:

  • Wellness examinations
  • Vaccinations
  • Equine dentistry
  • Intestinal parasite control
  • Coggins testing

Vaccinations

We use only the highest quality, up-to-date vaccines, stored and handled with strict protocols to ensure their effectiveness. Our veterinarians are happy to discuss the benefits and considerations of each vaccine. While self-administering vaccines may seem convenient, manufacturers typically guarantee safety and efficacy only when administered by a licensed veterinarian.

Equine Dentistry

Routine dental care is essential for horses of all ages. Annual dental exams can help prevent tooth loss, extend lifespan, and reduce the risk of conditions like choke and colic. We offer dental services both at our clinic and on-site at your farm for your convenience.

Intestinal Parasite Control

With increasing resistance to dewormers, strategic deworming is now the gold standard. This evidence-based approach uses fecal egg counts (FEC) and fecal egg count reduction testing (FECRT) to create a tailored deworming plan for your horse and farm. If strategic deworming isn’t feasible, we can still assess your current program using FEC testing.

Coggins Testing

A Coggins test screens for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA), a lifelong and untreatable viral disease. Since EIA can be spread by flies and infected horses may appear healthy, annual testing is essential—even for horses that don’t travel. A negative Coggins test is required for travel, shows, and sales.

Laboratory Services

We offer a wide range of in-house lab tests for blood, urine, feces, and tissue samples. For specialized diagnostics, we partner with referral labs and typically receive results within a week.

General Surgery (On-Farm or In-Clinic)

Our team performs a variety of soft tissue surgeries under standing sedation or general anesthesia. Common procedures include castrations, tumor biopsies, laceration repairs, and reconstructive surgeries.

Lameness Evaluations

Lameness can result from injury, disease, poor conformation, or farrier issues. We provide thorough evaluations, including digital radiographs, to identify the root cause. We also offer pre-purchase exams to assess lameness and overall health before you buy.

Digital Radiology

Our portable digital radiology equipment allows us to capture high-resolution images on-site or at the clinic. These images can be shared with you or specialists for second opinions and are easily stored for your horse’s medical records.

Reproductive Services

We offer reproductive ultrasounds, artificial insemination, and semen evaluation. Ultrasound helps optimize breeding timing and confirm pregnancy as early as 16 days post-insemination. We also provide reminders for pregnancy-related vaccines and 24/7 support for foaling concerns.

Microchipping

Microchipping provides permanent, tamper-proof identification for your horse. The ISO-compliant chips we use are recognized internationally and are essential for:

  • Proof of ownership
  • Medical records
  • Event and registry compliance
  • Theft and disaster recovery
  • Sales documentation
